On the 12th of March 2025, Grade 12 students of the HUMSS department and the Social Science Club had participated on an educational trip to the institutions of the Philippine government. This included a visit to the three branches of the government—the executive, legislative, and judicial branches—-with the aim of informing students of their functions to uphold democracy in the country.
The first destinations were the Bahay Ugnayan Museum, and the Presidential Museum and Library at Malacañang Palace. The Bahay Ugnayan Museum showcased the life story of current President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., from birth up to his presidency. The museum had various artifacts utilized by the President himself in his work, as well as prized gifts given to him by Filipino citizens. The Presidential Museum and Library, on the other hand, showcased the life and legacy of the previous presidents of the Philippines, beginning from the very first President Emilio Aguinaldo to the recent previous President Rodrigo Duterte. This museum featured artifacts of Philippine history that had withstood the various challenges faced by the country, now displayed as proof of Philippine pride and strength.
The second destination was the highest court in the land—the Supreme Court. In this particular, respectable place, the students were able to delve into more information regarding the power and duty of the Supreme Court. It also showcased the portraits of the different chief justices who were elected for the position. Additionally, the students were also fortunate to have a talk with a lawyer who works in the Supreme Court; the students raised questions that further contributed to their knowledge about the duty of the court.
The last destination was the Senate of the Philippines in Pasay City. Although the place was being prepared for important hearings for later dates, the students were still able to see and learn the important duties of the Senators in our country. They were also able to go to the Senate Museum, a place highlighting significant events and marking the history of the Philippine Senate.
This trip was surely an eye-opening experience for the students in learning about the three branches of government and how they work. It also shows the importance of these branches in making our country better, further advocating for youth empowerment. Our voice, our future.
