On the 29th and 30th of November 2024, Senior High School representatives from the HUMSS strand participated in the Kabataan Roadtrip 2024 held in the Commission of Human Rights (CHR), UP Diliman. The event aims to promote the theme: Navigating Turbulence: Modern Strategies for Crisis Management in Public Administration.
Day 1 of the Kabataan Roadtrip on the 29th of November had included numerous seminars held by experts on crisis management and preparedness. These included Dr. Likha G. Minimo’s “Recognizing the Risks: The Role of Risk Identification in Crisis Management”, Ms. Feye Andal’s “Stepping-Up when Catastrophe Strikes: Crisis Leadership and Decision-Making”, and Mr. Juanquine Castro’s “From the Present to the Future: Preparing the Youth Towards Effective Crisis Preparedness and Actions”. The topics discussed in these seminars were to be used in the quiz bee on Day 2.
Day 2 of the Kabataan Roadtrip on the 30th of November included three competitions: Traditional Poster Making, Essay Writing, and Quiz bee. Yuhan Padsoyan of Grade 11 St. Candida participated in the traditional poster making, and Stacey Sanchez of Grade 12 St. Mark participated in the essay writing. For the quiz bee, there were 2 teams, Team Tempest of Grade 11 St. Candida and Team Humanistruck of Grade 12 St. Mark. Team Tempest included: Rhianne Yarra, Nigelo Salvador, and Anika De Capia. Team Humanistruck included: Hailey Miranda, Paubielle Zoleta, And Raul Sande Jr.
For the individual competitions, Yuhan Padsoyan won 1st place in poster making, and Stacey Sanchez won 3rd place in essay writing. For the quiz bee, Team Tempest and Team Humanistruck won 3rd and 4th place respectively.
“The experience overall was fun and entertaining, especially being able to get exposed to an environment like that that was mostly student-led and even outside the campus of Manresa which I get to experience very rarely. It also inspired me to do better and become more skilled to attend more competitions like Kabataan Roadtrip as it helps me know more about other topics that are outside of the normalized curriculum.” - Rhianne Yarra, Grade 11 HUMSS representative.
“Though I was confident enough in my essay-writing skills, I didn't know what to expect. I was surprised to find that I quite enjoyed my time there. It was different from the norm, the day-to-day schoolwork I would do. Despite only getting third place, it was an experience I know will certainly be a treasured memory this school year.” - Stacey Sanchez, Grade 12 HUMSS representative.
The Kabataan Roadtrip 2024 was an event aimed at empowering the youth to participate in crisis prevention and management through public administration. The HUMSS representatives of the Senior High School have surely been granted a wonderful opportunity, now equipped with the knowledge and skills to create a sustainable future through crisis management.
