Manresa School Celebrates First Ever Vision-Mission Day

Updated: Jan 4

“Forming lifelong learners, responsible leaders, and useful members of the Church and society who embody the Manresan maxim, Tatak Manresa: Kapatid sa Kapwa”—a statement from the Manresa School Vision Mission statement that encapsulates the first ever Vision Mission Day.

The Manresa School Vision Mission statement continues to become a guiding principle that has inspired many generations of Manresans. In the beginning of SY 2022-2023, the Provincial Government of the Hijas de Jesus Congregation, Indico-Pacific Province initiated the unification of the vision statement in particular, making it now unified with the other sister schools of Manresa. Despite these revisions made over the years, its aim to instill Christ-centeredness and being a Kapatid sa Kapwa remains constant, with Jesus, Mary, and Saint Candida as the role models Manresans look up to.

In the 53 years since Manresa School’s founding, this school year 2024-2025 welcomed the first Vision-Mission day. It was held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 for the Grade school students with the theme, “Recalling, Reflecting, and Reliving the Values of Being a Tatak Hijas: Kapatid sa Kapwa.”

This event, planned and spearheaded by the previous members of the student council, finally came to its realization after being postponed from its supposed celebration in the previous school year. The planning of this event started from the goal of instilling the values in the Vision Mission statement to the Manresan students. The previous and current student council members and the 70 senior high school student volunteers worked together for the success of this celebration.

The day started early for the Grade 2 students, with their Normalization, Launching, and Orientation at 7:25 am, while the rest of the levels from Grades 3-6 had their General Assembly at the Old Gym. The Grade 1 (who followed in the afternoon) and Grade 2 students had a fulfilling day filled with activities, namely: (1) “What Would You Do?” where different scenarios were shown on the screen with questions asked right after, promoting self-reflection and value integration, (2) Treasure Hunting, an active activity wherein students had to find the 16 missing puzzle pieces in their designated area. Once they had puzzled the pieces together, they explained their own perception of the values present, (3) Agape Recess, which gave the students an avenue to share their snacks with each other and practice what being a “kapatid sa kapwa” means, and (4) Bulletin Board Making, that allowed the students to express their creativity and understanding of what their section (value) is for them.

The Grade 3 students had similar activities, only with the addition of Vision of the Future—an activity that allowed the students to discern what they wanted to be in the future as responsible and self-actualized persons who can make a positive change in the world. Similarly, the students of Grades 4-6 also enjoyed these activities and more, such as: (1) Human Bingo, which allowed them to get to know each other through finding out who among them practice the values from the Vision Mission statement, and (2) Atras Abante Vision Mission Quiz Bee, which was an interactive way to test their knowledge on the school’s Vision Mission.

At the end of the day, each section was awarded with (1) Tatak Manresa Awardee, decided by the respective student volunteers and advisers of each class. This award was given to the students who, throughout the day, was evident in their recalling, reflecting, and reliving the values of being a Tatak Hijas: Kapatid sa Kapwa.

Truly, this event allowed the Grade school students of Manresa school to not only recall, reflect, and relive but also embody the way Saint Candida lived a Christ-centered life. Furthermore, it also allowed them to realize that the Vision Mission is not just a statement recited every morning, but also a guide that paves the path for young children toward a Christ-centered life.

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, the High School students will also be celebrating their Vision Mission Day.
