On September 28, 2024, 15 senior high school students from Manresa School’s Science Honor Society club competed in the preliminaries of the 2024 BrainMEsh Inter-high School (BMH) at the Engineering Theater, Melchor Hall in the University of the Philippines Diliman.
BrainMEsh Inter-high School is an inter-high school National Math and Physics Quiz competition held to evaluate the abilities and academic excellence of senior high school students from different institutions and provide them with a competitive platform to test their skills. This year’s competition aligns with the celebration of the 31st Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineering (PSME) month with the theme “Transcend: Beyond The Leading Edge”. The event is organized annually by the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers-University of the Philippines Student Unit (PSME-UPSU), aiming to measure the knowledge of different students in Mathematics and Physics—with topics ranging from arithmetic to thermodynamics. This competition is open for senior high school students on any track, with the participants being divided into four teams consisting of three students from the same school.
The 15 representatives of Manresa School were divided into four teams. Team 1 consisted of Lance Nañola, Joaquin Barrion, and Nickole Francisco. Team 2 consisted of Jaeden Favia, Ian Pelimiano, Adriana Guinto, and Yuki Ishizuki. Team 3 consisted of Andrei Ellazar, Matthew Ochoa, Nicole Llanes, and Adlin Caronongan. Lastly, Team 4 consisted of Catherine Cuyugan, Riell Cunanan, Denise Cagampan, and Krystelle Visda. The representatives were trained and prepared by Mr. Raymond Bersamin (General Chemistry teacher), Ms. Celine Aloba (General Mathematics teacher), and Mr. Mark Fillippe Pastor (moderator of the Science Honor Society).
The program began with the checking for registration at 7:30 am and ended with the awarding of winners at 6:00 pm. The competition consists of three main phases, namely: the preliminary phase, the semifinal phase, and the final phase. The preliminary phase requires three registered participants of the team to take individually in a span of 1 hour and 30 minutes a qualifying examination consisting of 40 questions. The contestants that will compete in the semifinal phase will be determined by calculating the average of the individual scores of the members in the preliminary phase. Then, the top 10 teams will advance to the semifinal phase.
Manresa School’s representatives in the 2024 BrainMEsh Competition gave their all in answering the challenging examination. Although the teams did not advance to the semifinal phase, their dedication and hard work were evident throughout the competition.
The Manresan Educative Family extends its congratulations to all participants for their outstanding efforts. Well done, Manresans! Truly, your Manresan educative family is brimming with pride!
