On August 22, 2024, selected students from the Senior High School Department of Manresa School were given the opportunity to attend a student empowerment forum organized by The Manila Times, which was held at the Manila Prince Hotel.
The event had a theme “Straightening Out the Curve” that implies the proper learning path an individual should adhere to; a type of empowerment that assists in teaching everyone the power of understanding one’s life properly. Numerous speakers were invited to share their ideas in regard to the aforementioned theme of the event. All the professional keynote speakers of the event range from being known in politics up to influencers in different social media platforms; it includes Sen. Win Gatchallian, Dr. Carmela Oracion, Sally Lopez, Yochika Nakagawa, Dr. Lyien Patricia Pascual, Alvin Santos, Jed Velarde, Maria Teresa Villanueva.
Manresa School students who represented the institution were interviewed to state their input and what they have learned from the talk:
“There are countless different ways to solve our problems and we shouldn’t just rely on trying to break the wall and banging our heads lang against it like zombies until eventually we arrive there, because by then, it might be too late na.” - Craig Hing, student representative.
“Failing doesn’t mean you are unsuccessful, it doesn't mean that you are incapable. It just means that you are being redirected to a path, a better path, where you can achieve the goals that you are aiming for. Kaya to my kapwa-estudyante, I want you to always remember that: Failure is just a mindset. A bad mindset. You didn’t fail, you are just being redirected.” - Raul Sande, student representative.
Aside from the various talks that the organizer prepared, students were also accommodated with a full-course meal that the delegates could digest while also digesting the information from the different professional key-note speakers. The goal of the event was to empower the students while teaching them to empower others as well.
