I would like to imagine that the educational system is a race between innovative and archaic methods, similar to the story of The Hare & The Tortoise. The Hare is the concept of innovation, and the Tortoise is the representation of timeworn societal structures.
The world is currently stagnant. Clinging to a system that struggles to move on from the past. Humanity is sticking to the same ideas that brought about the problems the world is facing today, even if the idea of innovation is on the table. This results in the community always yearning for more, always on the search for something that will fulfill their satisfaction, and always finding difficulty in resolving their problems.
Particularly, the youth, the generation that inherits this world, will likely be the ones to feel the effects of the problems that could have been solved if addressed earlier. It is not like society chose to avoid this. Schools have taught children to think of inventive ways to combat societal issues. Instead of listening to proposed solutions, society disapproves of the innovations of the youth that were made to solve the problems of the community after studying them for so long. Hindering the cure for the disease while burning the dreams of the future to ashes.
Education is one of society's most important aspects. Without the ever-enduring evolution of knowledge in the community, no one would know any better if what they were doing was beneficial to one yet harmful to many. The beauty of education is that it can be acquired whenever an individual becomes open and willing, no matter how ignorant or close-minded one once was. However, it must be emphasized that education must evolve at the same time society and its practices do.
The Phoenix intends to rewrite the story of The Hare & The Tortoise. Innovation, the Hare in this situation, will always be ahead of the Tortoise, the out-of-date systems, because it happens to improve what society is lacking. With that, the youth is offered the opportunity to ride the tide of innovation and progress. This magazine showcases the various times the Senior High School students of Manresa School take opportunities to shape the minds of innovation and progress in themselves and in their Kapatid sa Kapwa. As we bridge secondary and collegiate education, we have the opportunity to soar high and lead others to where they intend to be.
If you have already identified the problems of the community, simply acting on them by starting an initiative or raising a notion to others is already moving away from stagnancy. It is a move towards progress, it is a rise from where we were pushed back and suppressed, it is the realization of the dreams that were once burned, and it is our rise from the ashes to ignite the voice of the youth in action.
Aim High and Soar High, Senior High!
